Custom Templates: Tailoring AI to Your Specialty

Every specialty documents differently. A cardiology consult note, a pediatric well-child visit, and a psychiatric intake don't share the same structure, vocabulary, or required fields — and a one-size-fits-all note generator tends to produce output that needs heavy editing.

Templates solve this by giving the AI a structure to fill rather than asking it to invent one. A template defines the sections a note should have — say, History of Present Illness, Review of Systems, Assessment, Plan — and any specialty-specific fields, like ROM measurements for orthopedics or mental status exam fields for psychiatry.

Built-in templates cover common note types (SOAP, H&P, consult letters, procedure notes) out of the box. Custom templates let a clinician or practice define their own structure — matching an existing EMR format, a referral pattern specific to their group, or a personal documentation style built up over years of practice.

The AI's job, given a template, is to map the conversation onto that structure rather than deciding on its own what a note should look like. That's what keeps output consistent across visits and across different patients seen by the same clinician.
